About me
Julie Broderick teaches 5th grade at The School at Columbia University (TSC), working with students to investigate mathematics, literacy, and social studies. TSC is a unique university partnership, offering a K - 8th grade school for both university families and neighborhood students. In addition to Julie’s classroom work with children, she is also deeply committed to working with teachers. She was one of the founding teachers of Teach21, a professional development initiative that was a part of TSC for many years, offering workshops in New York, San Francisco, and Istanbul. Julie is also an adjunct professor at Bank Street College of Education, teaching math education workshops. For many years, she led educator study tours to Cuba, also sponsored by Bank Street. Prior to teaching at The School at Columbia, Julie taught in the New York City public schools, working in Spanish bilingual, dual-language, and monolingual classrooms. These schools included the Manhattan School for Children (P.S. 333), the Amistad School (P.S./I.S. 176), and P.S. 128. Julie is a recipient of the 2010 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching (PAEMST) and was honored for this award by President Obama at the White House.
