About me
Portland Public Schools, founded in 1851, is a PK-12 urban school district in Portland, Oregon. With more than 44,000 students in 81 schools, it is one of the largest school districts in the Pacific Northwest. Cleveland High School is one of two high schools in the district which have the International Baccalaureate program. We teach Algebra 1 and IB Math Analysis and Approaches Higher Level. Our students are very academically diverse, with over 25% of our Algebra 1 students qualifying for SPED and ELD services. In addition, 26% of our Algebra students are historically underserved. Conversely, the IB Math course has only 1 student qualifying for SPED services and 1 student who is historically underserved. BTC is effective in both settings. We primarily serve the students in our classroom, but also work to spread BTC in school and district professional learning.
