About me
North Valleys High School is part of the Washoe County School District in Reno, Nevada. We serve a diverse student population, including a growing number of emergent multilingual students, many of whom are newcomers to the United States. The school is home to a dedicated newcomer center, designed specifically to support students who have recently immigrated and have limited English proficiency. The students we serve come from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds, with a large proportion from Latin America and other regions. Many face challenges related to adjusting to a new country, school system, and language. We strive to provide an inclusive and supportive environment where these students can thrive academically and socially. The district emphasizes equity and access, aiming to ensure that all students, regardless of their background, have access to high-quality education. Our team includes content area teachers, bilingual co-teachers, ELL specialists, counselors, and administrators—all committed to working collaboratively to support the academic and emotional well-being of our students. Through initiatives like the co-taught geometry program, we focus on meeting the specific needs of emergent multilingual students, helping them succeed in both academic content and language developmen
